Take a moment to evaluate your Design Pro Experience.
From Arlington, VA to Leesburg, VA and everywhere in between, the signs of spring have been blossoming all over. When Northern Virginia residents think of spring vivid images of warmer weather, blossoming flows, and outdoor activities. One thing that does not come to mind is rainy weather. Northern Virginia experiences record rainfall during these spring months. Now where it may seem harmless (and it is) homeowners must be conscious of where the runoff from their homes is running. In order to avoid any unforeseen mishaps or repairs, Design Pro Exteriors has put together a spring checklist so that you can be worry free this spring.
To begin, in order to prepare your home for spring showers, it is imperative that all gutters be cleaned and rid of all debris. All gutter systems should be cleaned anywhere from 3-4 times a year to accommodate the changing in seasons. In the spring, many trees drop dead twigs and seedlings. Improper maintenance will lead to clogged or damaged gutters and thousands of dollars in damage to your home's foundation, exterior trim, and basement.
To clean your gutters properly, equip yourself with a sturdy ladder as well as a friend to give you a helping hand. When setting up the ladder, be sure to stay away from power lines and windows. It is highly recommended that you use a ladder stabilizer to ensure that the weight of the ladder does not crush your gutters and that the ladder does not slip out from under you while you are doing cleaning. Ladder stabilizers can be purchased through your local hardware store. Your safety is the most important part of this process.
Using gloves, carefully pull the built up debris out from your gutters. Waste and debris can be placed in a bucket for later disposal. Use a water hose to spray dirt and debris out through the gutter spouts. Finally, make sure all drainage spouts are in working order and pointed away from your home's foundation. If not, water can collect along your home leading to either damage to the foundation or basement flooding.
Upon inspection, if your gutters are in need of repair, call Design Pro Exteriors. We offer a unique color matching system that allows us to provide you with gutter complement or contrast with your siding or roofing materials.
