Is Your Northern Virginia Roof Showing Signs of Curling?
When nearing the end of their life, or faced with extreme weather elements or improper installation, roof shingles can show signs of curling. Curling is caused by contracting roofing reinforcement, caused by the age of the roof, manufacturer defect, poor roof ventilation, improper fastening, or a lack of back-coating on the shingles.
Roofing Repair: Shingle Curling
Curling often starts at the bottom edge of the shingle and can sometimes start at the two sides of the shingle tab. If a roof is more than 15 years old and showing signs of curling, it may be time to replace the roof; if a roof has just been installed and the shingles are curling, that could be indicative of improper construction.
